FDIC nom has a Kennedy problem

The Trump administration’s nominee to lead the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. faced bipartisan blowback from the Senate Banking Committee this morning.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) read at length from a 2023 report that confirmed a toxic workplace culture at the FDIC going back decades. Then, Kennedy told FDIC acting Chair Travis Hill he wouldn’t back the nominee until the agency documented its progress on internal reforms.

“I've talked about this for a long time. You know what I've heard back from the FDIC? Nothing, zero, zilch, nada, I haven't heard from you,” Kenney said. “If your name came up in front of me right now, I wouldn't vote for you.”
