Treasury sanctions ‘sham charity’ connected to Hamas

The Treasury Department announced new sanctions targeting a “sham charity” and an unlicensed bank in Gaza this morning. The effort caps a full year of an aggressive crackdown from U.S. authorities to limit Hamas’ ability to finance itself.

In a statement, Secretary Janet Yellen pointed to the anniversary of Hamas’ “brutal” terror attack on Israel last year and said the U.S. government would “continue relentlessly degrading the ability of Hamas” and its related groups to pay for their operations.
