A lone Senate Republican stared down the most powerful man in the world and won this morning, forcing President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice to drop an unsubstantiated criminal inquiry into the chair of the Federal Reserve.
U.S. Attorney General Jeanine Pirro said the DOJ would abandon its probe into Chair Jay Powell and allow the Federal Reserve Office of Inspector General to take over the proceeding.
“The IG has the authority to hold the Federal Reserve accountable to American taxpayers,” Pirro said on X. “Accordingly, I have directed my office to close our investigation as the IG undertakes this inquiry.”
