Thune urges Fed off-ramp as Trump digs in

Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Wednesday urged the Trump administration to halt its criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell just as the Justice Department appears to be escalating its probe.

Federal prosecutors made a surprise visit to the Fed’s beleaguered building site on Tuesday, a sign that the administration isn’t backing down even as the investigation prevents Senate confirmation of Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump’s pick to replace Powell.
