W&M Republicans back Smith’s push for single reconciliation bill

Ways and Means Committee Republicans echoed Chair Jason Smith’s (R-Mo.) concerns about doing two reconciliation bills next year and putting the Trump tax cuts second during a private meeting this morning.

Committee members asked Smith how they can back him up in his fight against incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s push to do a non-tax reconciliation first in 2025 before turning to taxes, according to multiple sources in the room. Tax writers worry if the Trump tax cuts don’t go in an initial bill, they’ll be at risk of expiring.
