Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Monday that he’d move to pass a Russia sanctions bill if President Donald Trump believes it’s necessary to prompt a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia.
The legislation, led by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), would impose harsh sanctions on Russia as punishment for continuing its attacks on Ukrainian territory and for refusing to engage in good faith on a peace deal. More than 70 senators, including Thune, have co-sponsored the bill.
