Republican House and Senate appropriations cardinals say they’re still working toward a bipartisan FY2027 Homeland Security funding bill.
That’s unlikely to happen for several reasons that we’ll get into, but it’s notable to see lawmakers on the funding panels hold out some hope. Sure, appropriators are always hopeful. Passing a Department of Homeland Security spending bill this year would help the once-powerful committee claw back some of its relevance after the GOP launched its effort to use reconciliation to fund ICE and border patrol.
