That’s unlikely to happen for several reasons that we’ll get into, but it’s notable to see lawmakers on the funding panels hold out some hope. Sure, appropriators are always hopeful. Passing a Department of Homeland Security spending bill this year would help the once-powerful committee claw back some of its relevance after the GOP launched its effort to use reconciliation to fund ICE and border patrol.
