Connolly will ‘step back’ from top Oversight slot, forgo reelection

Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly will “step back” as the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee and won’t run for reelection after learning his cancer has returned.

The 75-year-old Connolly was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in November. Connolly announced Monday that the cancer has returned despite aggressive treatment. Here’s what Connolly said in an “open letter” to his constituents:
