GOP eyeing another seat in Tennessee

Tennessee Republicans unveiled a new congressional map on Wednesday that would wipe out the lone Democratic seat in the Volunteer State.

The proposal, which must pass the GOP-dominated state legislature, cracks Memphis’ Shelby County into three districts and likely dooms the reelection prospects of longtime Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen (Tenn.).

Cohen’s 9th District is 62% Black. But Republicans are using the Supreme Court’s Louisiana v. Callais ruling last week as a green light to chop it up. This move would likely make Tennessee’s congressional delegation nine Republicans and no Democrats.
