Speaker Mike Johnson and the House Republican leadership have two major hurdles to overcome next month.

Johnson notches victory on big rule vote

Speaker Mike Johnson turned more than a half-dozen hardline conservative no votes during a marathon vote series on the House floor Wednesday, passing a rule that will allow him to bring up several legislative priorities.

The vote was 216-210 after more than two hours on the House floor. Johnson was able to pass the rule in part by agreeing to pause consideration of the farm bill. There was discontent in the House Republican Conference over legislation that would allow the year-round sale of E15 fuel.
