Speaker Mike Johnson said passing a standalone bill to pay U.S. troops during a shutdown would be akin to “dithering” on “show votes.”

U.S. service members will miss a paycheck one week from today unless Congress finds a way to fund the government — or passes a separate bill to pay the troops.
