Speaker Mike Johnson broke his silence on a congressional stock-trading ban Wednesday, saying he supports barring lawmakers from trading equities.

Johnson gave a nuanced view of the very complicated issue, arguing that some lawmakers engage in stock trading in order to keep up with the rising cost of living and afford to serve in Congress. The speaker, however, said overall he’s “in favor of the policy.”
