Congress is at risk of under-funding itself.

That’s according to the heads of legislative agencies who are warning that there will be a price to pay when it comes to overseeing the executive branch and getting the needed information for informed policy decisions.

Even a budget increase for some agencies won’t be much help. Departments like the GAO are asking for budget boosts in FY2027 but would have to reduce their staff even if Congress doles out more dough.
