Portal: Library of Congress wants budget boost

The Library of Congress urged House appropriators on Friday to give the agency more money for the first time in years, as the library seeks to improve its technology.

Acting Librarian of Congress Robert R. Newlen made the case to the House Appropriations Committee for the library to receive a 3.8% budget increase for FY2027. The LOC’s budget has remained level since FY2024.

The LOC provides vital services to Congress, most notably through the Congressional Research Service that supports lawmakers in researching and writing legislation.
