Lawmakers cheer as Meta’s antitrust trial kicks off

The blockbuster antitrust trial brought by the Federal Trade Commission against Meta kicked off this morning, and the social media giant isn’t going to get much love from the Hill.

The FTC is arguing in court that Meta has to be broken up for monopolistic activity after the Facebook owner bought WhatsApp and Instagram over a decade ago. For many on the Hill, the trial finally marks a moment of reckoning.
