Thune skeptical of ‘rifle-shot’ bills

Senate Majority Leader John Thune isn’t yet committing to forcing votes this week on bills to pay members of the military and air traffic controllers, saying he wants to hear from the GOP rank-and-file before making a decision.

The South Dakota Republican also expressed some skepticism about the “rifle-shot” strategy, which would force Democrats to take an uncomfortable vote that could undermine their leverage. At the same time, these votes could put Thune at odds with Speaker Mike Johnson and the White House.
