Now that the Senate is entering a somewhat calmer summer period, we thought it’d be a good time for a Leader Look at Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. 

Senate leaves town with no progress on DHS

Funding latest. Senators are leaving town for the weekend nowhere near an agreement on a Department of Homeland Security funding bill — or even a short-term stopgap — one week before the deadline.

Democratic leaders released their list of demands late Wednesday. But Senate Majority Leader John Thune has accused Democrats of ignoring GOP overtures and questioned whether they actually want to reach an agreement. And Thune isn’t ruling out jamming Democrats with a year-long continuing resolution for DHS.
