Semiconductor manufacturers are selling chips like never before as artificial intelligence continues to drive up demand. But the Chinese app DeepSeek and President Donald Trump have injected a lot of uncertainty into the industry.

Global chip sales hit a new record in 2024 at $627.6 billion, a 19% increase from the previous year, the Semiconductor Industry Association announced today. We caught up with SIA President and CEO John Neuffer to chat about the record sales and what they’re watching in the new Trump administration.
