House Judiciary moves to scrap FTC antitrust shift

The House Judiciary Committee is abandoning its plan to shift antitrust enforcement away from the Federal Trade Commission.

Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) proposed an amendment to strip the provision out of the panel’s portion of the reconciliation package. The committee had initially sought to move the FTC’s antitrust powers over to the Justice Department. The committee’s markup is currently ongoing.

We reported earlier today that Republican senators doubted the effort would be allowed under the Senate’s reconciliation rules.
