Rep. Sam Liccardo (D-Calif.) said he won’t cosponsor a forthcoming artificial intelligence policy bill from Rep. Jay Obernolte (R-Calif.), dimming the chances that a major AI regulatory effort will be bipartisan.
Liccardo said on Thursday that he couldn’t endorse the bill because it didn’t meet the “critical requirements” he needed in place to support allowing the federal government to preempt state laws on AI.
