The stat: Key deadline looms in shutdown fight

It’s day 19 of the government shutdown, and an extension of increased Obamacare subsidies remains Democrats’ core demand.

Nov. 1 is the date Democrats have had their eye on as they fight to address health care in the government funding process. That’s when open enrollment begins for Obamacare marketplace plans covering 2026. So if Congress is going to extend the enhanced premium tax credits, it’s simpler and more effective if it happens before then.
