The White House issued a formal veto threat Monday against the Senate’s second major attempt to overturn President Donald Trump’s tariffs on foreign imports.
In a “Statement of Administration Policy” shared with Senate chiefs of staff, the White House said that the bipartisan measure, which will get a vote this week, would “undermine” Trump’s efforts to combat “unusual and extraordinary threats to national security and economic stability.”
The SAP also notes that Trump is in “active negotiations” with many of the countries that have since been subjected to his across-the-board reciprocal tariffs.
