Rand Paul’s cybersecurity name game

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chair Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said his panel will mark up a key expiring cybersecurity law in the “next couple of weeks.”

That should provide some relief for companies worried that the liability protections provided under the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act will go away after Sept. 30. But there’s a wrinkle.

Paul said he still wants to include “important provisions to protect the First Amendment” despite House Homeland Security Committee Chair Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.) saying earlier this week that the liability law reauthorization is not the venue for these policies.
