The final stretch of the TikTok saga?

President Donald Trump teased Monday there is a “deal” with China to keep TikTok running in the U.S. past the Wednesday deadline for the platform’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to divest from the app.

Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping will confirm the deal after speaking Friday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters in Madrid. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Trump may need to issue another deadline extension to give the parties time to formalize the deal.

The details of the agreement are still very murky, but it could bring a resolution to what has been one of the most awkward subjects for Republicans on Capitol Hill. The deal will either be an end to their nightmare — with the details complying with the law — or a bigger headache with Trump once again flouting the law they championed.
