The nonprofit organization Protect Borrowers has hired a trio of Biden-era Consumer Financial Protection Bureau officials aimed at creating a new litigation unit.
Eric Halperin, Cara Petersen and Tara Mikkilineni are joining Protect Borrowers to launch a “strategic enforcement project” aimed at shoring up consumer finance law.
The move comes as the Trump administration has spent much of 2025 freezing or undoing much of the CFPB’s work under the Biden administration. And just this week, the Trump administration said in court that it was not legally allowed to request additional funds for its operations from the Federal Reserve.
