No NDAA for contentious AI policies

Two policies that have both enthralled and horrified the artificial intelligence industry will not be included in the annual defense policy bill that is expected to be released as soon as this week, according to key House Republicans.

A provision that would preempt states’ artificial intelligence laws nor a measure to restrict AI chips going to U.S. adversaries like China made the final cut. That’s according to House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Brian Mast (R-Fla.).

This turn of events marks a win and a loss for the AI industry. Supporters of both provisions say they will keep up the pressure and seek out new vehicles for these policies.
