House passage would amount to a symbolic rebuke of Trump’s actions since the Senate is expected to again defeat a similar war powers resolution.

Defense: House Iran war powers vote will be close

The outcome of the Senate’s war powers vote this afternoon on Iran is a foregone conclusion. But things will get more interesting in the House, where Democrats are bullish about their chances of logging a victory on the floor Thursday.

“It’s the time, I think, for folks to lay down their cards,” said Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), ranking member of the Foreign Affairs Committee. “I think that I get just about every Democrat — maybe the exception of one.”

Two Democrats who opposed a prior Iran war powers vote — Reps. Greg Landsman (Ohio) and Henry Cuellar (Texas) — have flipped to yes this time. That leaves Reps. Juan Vargas (Calif.) and Jared Golden (Maine), who have declined to tip their hands.
