FRANKFURT, GERMANY — Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen lectured European bankers on sanctions compliance, received an honorary degree and gave a sweeping speech on the future of U.S.-European cooperation in a matter of hours.
Yellen — or, to borrow a phrase used by several bankers today, “Dear Janet” — was welcomed warmly by her German peers throughout the day. But the Treasury secretary had more than a few warnings for her hosts.
