Underwood passes on Illinois Senate run

Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) isn’t running for the open Illinois Senate seat. Underwood, 38, currently serves in House Democratic leadership and was seen as a potential frontrunner in the Democratic primary to succeed retiring Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).

Underwood told CNN’s Kasie Hunt Monday afternoon she wants to stay in the House to help Democrats flip the chamber and protect health care access for Americans.
