House and Senate appropriators say they’re closing in on a deal on a short-term CR with a three-bill minibus. But at the same time, the White House, GOP leaders and top Democrats are on completely different pages about what they want in a stopgap funding bill in order to avoid an Oct. 1 shutdown.
Appropriations leaders said Tuesday that their “Four Corners” negotiations are going well, even as the White House pitches a Jan. 31 CR deadline. House Appropriations Committee Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.) said he believes the White House is “flexible” on that date. And based on our conversations with the administration, they do in fact seem flexible.
