Dems push for IRS answers, plus Banking noms advance

Exclusive: Nearly two dozen House Democrats are pressing Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent for answers on plans to lay off huge swaths of the IRS workforce and what it would mean for the agency’s ability to function.

Illinois Rep. Brad Schneider, the New Democrat Coalition Chair and Ways and Means Committee member, is leading the new letter to Bessent that cites “grave concern” with the agency’s direction and that Treasury hasn’t fully considered the “real-world impact” of staffing cuts. Read the letter here.
