Chair Hill wants Congress to zoom out on China

The Republican chair of the House Financial Service Committee is trying to reorient his members’ approach to China, telling the panel this morning that it was time for lawmakers to look beyond “narrow questions” of artificial intelligence and other technological races.

This is something of a gentle pivot for the committee, led by Chair French Hill (R-Ark.). Hill told members during a hearing on China today that Congress needed to embrace a forest-for-the-trees approach, rather than getting caught up on the particulars of TikTok, DeepSeek or Huawei.
