Six senior Senate Democrats led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) charged Federal Housing Finance Authority Director Bill Pulte this morning of abusing his position to target President Donald Trump’s political enemies.
In a letter signed by Sens. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the lawmakers tell Pulte he has “abused [his] power and authority as FHFA Director to engage in what can only be described as a politically motivated public campaign to attack President Trump’s perceived adversaries.”
The letter asks the FHFA to share “documents and information” around the director’s accusations of mortgage fraud targeting Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and New York Attorney General Letitia James. Senate Democrats don’t have much oversight power from the minority, but take this as a dress rehearsal if and when they take back power.
