How the House GOP’s ACA talks fell apart

News: House Republican leaders wanted Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) to find budgetary offsets for his amendment to renew the enhanced Obamacare premium subsidies, leading to a massive split between the leadership and a core group of GOP moderates.

Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership team had an informal agreement with the Republican moderates — Fitzpatrick and Reps. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), Jen Kiggans (R-Va.) and David Valadao (R-Calif.) — to offer an amendment that would extend the ACA tax credits.
