Trade groups ask Biden to tap Fannie, Freddie and address housing costs

A trio of industry groups representing community bankers, home lenders and realtors asked the White House and Treasury Department to bring two government-sponsored enterprises back into the market for mortgage-backed securities.

The groups’ request comes as housing costs continue to be the main cause of inflation in the U.S. That has made homes and the overall cost of living more expensive, particularly for low-income communities.
