News: Jim Notter is leaving his position as Rep. Steny Hoyer’s (D-Md.) chief to take over as chief of staff to Sen. Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.). Notter has worked with Hoyer for more than a decade, joining Hoyer’s office in 2012 and serving as district chief of staff along the way.
Before working for Hoyer, Notter served as former Rep. John Sarbanes’ (D-Md.) counsel.
Hoyer’s longtime leadership chief of staff, Brian Romick, departed in May to helm Democratic Majority for Israel.
Hoyer, 86, served as the No. 2 House Democrat for over a decade before stepping down from party leadership in 2022 along with his Democratic colleagues Nancy Pelosi and Jim Clyburn.
In other Hoyer news: Margaret Mulkerrin, Hoyer’s current deputy chief of staff, will be the Maryland Democrat’s next chief of staff. Mulkerrin has worked for Hoyer since 2021 and previously served as Hoyer’s communications director.
