Schumer asks SEC to investigate Trump, aides for possible insider trading

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is asking Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Paul Atkins to investigate potential securities law violations, including insider trading, by President Donald Trump and his aides in connection with Trump’s announcement of a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs.

In a letter to Atkins, Schumer and a group of Democratic senators referenced Trump’s Truth Social post from Wednesday in which he said it was a “great time to buy.” A few hours later, Trump announced he was pausing the tariff regime, leading to a massive surge in the stock market.
