China hawks pan Nvidia decision

China hawks on Capitol Hill in both parties are taking issue with the Trump administration making Nvidia’s life easier.

Their anger stems from the announcement Tuesday that the powerful American chipmaker can now sell certain artificial intelligence chips to China. The move came just three months after the administration had restricted those sales.

“I'm unaware of why the president decided to reverse course,” said Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), who’s been supportive of tough controls on AI chips going to China. “This is like doing a 180 on something that is a national security issue.”
