Chipmakers are objecting to a proposal to crack down on smuggling, despite lawmakers saying they made changes to a bill to appease industry concerns.

Several leading trade groups representing the semiconductor industry told House Foreign Affairs Committee leadership this week they still oppose the Chip Security Act, according to a letter we obtained. The bill still imposes “burdensome” requirements despite the changes we scooped Friday, the groups said.
