Congressional Republicans who pride themselves on being China hawks are offering cautious responses to President Donald Trump allowing Nvidia to sell its H200 chip to China, a more advanced piece of technology than previously allowed to flow to the U.S. rival.
On Monday, Trump greenlit sales of the chip at the urging of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. And while Democrats and many MAGA hawks outside government are calling the move a major national security risk, congressional Republicans have been much more hesitant to make that argument.
