The spectrum change Rounds wants

News. Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) said he wants explicit language in the GOP’s reconciliation bill that would make clear the Defense Department doesn’t have to share the spectrum bands it uses.

Senate Commerce Committee Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) excluded bands used by national security agencies from spectrum auctions in his panel’s section of the party’s domestic policy bill. But Rounds wants stronger language to ensure no companies or public entities that use a piece of spectrum being auctioned off get moved into the lower 3 GHz band utilized by the Pentagon.

While GOP hawks have been seeking changes to the spectrum language, Rounds is for the first time disclosing what specifically they’re requesting.
