Software makers want cyber exemptions to AI legislation

The leading trade group for the software industry in Washington is asking Congress to exempt artificial intelligence used for cybersecurity from any legislation that limits AI use.

The Business Software Alliance — which represents some software giants like Microsoft, Oracle, OpenAI and Adobe — is urging lawmakers to make carveouts for cyber AI to avoid hampering defense mechanisms against foreign malicious actors, according to BSA’s legislative agenda.
