Hassett in the hot seat? Not for Senate GOP

Kevin Hassett appears to be a leading contender to succeed Jay Powell as chair of the Federal Reserve. Senate Banking Republicans have all but embraced the White House’s top economist with open arms.

Hassett is currently chair of the White House National Economic Council. While some bond traders and European Central Bank officials worry Hassett will struggle to be independent from his current boss at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the Senate GOP appears to be all-in on the pick, official or not.
