Wednesday’s overwhelming House vote to send a landmark housing bill back to the Senate with edits has once again put the two chambers — and two key Democrats — on a collision course.
The House and Senate have clashed over housing policy for months. Even before the House’s massive 396-13 vote today, Sens. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) warned the House that they’d push for further changes to the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.
Warren has pushed with particular force behind the scenes to reshape the House’s version of the housing bill. These moves have repeatedly put her at odds with policy supported by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), a member who’s served in the House longer than Warren has been a registered Democrat.
