President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced this morning that Boeing will build the Air Force’s new sixth-generation fighter, which is called – fittingly enough – the F-47.
The announcement is a big win for the struggling Boeing and a blow to Lockheed Martin, maker of the current frontline U.S. fighter, the F-35. The Pentagon is expected to spend tens of billions of dollars developing the new fighter before beginning mass production.
