Abrego Garcia case becomes a political crisis for Washington

Abrego Garcia case becomes a political crisis for Washington

Let’s talk about the politics surrounding Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador. The case has become a huge legal, political and even international issue that’s not going away soon.

First of all, we don’t want to ignore the humanitarian aspect of Abrego Garcia’s situation. He remains in a legal limbo. A Salvadoran native who entered the United States illegally in 2011, Abrego Garcia was under a judicial protective order that prevented his forced return to El Salvador due to fear of gangs there. Despite that order, Abrego Garcia – who is married to a U.S. citizen – was picked up by ICE agents in mid-March and deported to El Salvador’s infamous CECOT prison.
