Labor secretary says data drought will continue

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer said Tuesday that data operations at the Bureau of Labor Statistics would continue to be shuttered until the government reopens.

Speaking to reporters during the House Republican leadership news conference this morning, Chavez-DeRemer said that even without data in hand, the economic impacts of the shutdown were beginning to mount.

“Yes, this is impacting the labor force,” the Labor secretary said. “I would imagine we're going to see more and more things every single day that this government is shut down.”
