Penny-killing push has a Tennessee holdout

Scoop: An effort by the House Financial Services Committee to help President Donald Trump kill the penny is running into some markup drama this week.

Rep. John Rose (R-Tenn.) is pushing for last-minute changes to the Common Cents Act, according to three people familiar with his opposition. That bill would direct the Treasury Department to stop minting the penny. Discussions between Rose and the committee are ongoing.

Tennessee is home to the only penny factory in the United States, and Rose is running for governor. Punchbowl News Text subscribers had the news first.
