Top congressional leaders emerged from a meeting with President Donald Trump today without a deal to keep the federal government open beyond Tuesday night, virtually assuring the first government shutdown in more than five years.

“I think we're headed to a shutdown because the Democrats won't do the right thing,” Vice President JD Vance said.
