Johnson vs. Luna – with the speaker’s power on the line

The House Republican leadership feels awfully confident that they’ll be able to turn back Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s (R-Fla.) effort to institute proxy voting for new and expectant mothers and fathers.

And Luna and her backers feel confident they’ll beat Speaker Mike Johnson.

This is the biggest gamble we’ve seen Johnson take on an internal political matter. He typically tries to avoid these confrontations because they divide Republicans.
